Reports in China suggest that battery specialist and independent car producer BYD has recently signed an agreement with one of China’s top three auto groups to provide lithium-ion batteries for hybrid vehicles.

There is nothing official, but some reports in China say that the other signatory in the deal is SAIC.
SAIC said earlier this year that it plans to invest more than RMB12bn in the next three or five years to develop hybrid vehicles and related auto parts.
The Buick LaCrosse ECO-hybrid is made by GM’s JV with SAIC – Shanghai General Motors Corp – and it went on sale in China in July.
GM and SAIC have said they will pursue passenger car hybrid options as well as other clean-energy vehicle applications including hydrogen fuel cell technologies for China’s relevant vehicle platforms.
