In the first seven months of the year, sales fell by 8.7% to 303,020 units, compared with 331,957 units a year earlier.

The MAA is increasingly optimistic about the outlook for the market in the second half and has increased it full-year forecasts to 500,000 from 480,000 earlier. It pointed out that month-on-month, sales rose by 14.9% in July compared with 47,332 units in June –which it sees as a very positive sign.

Dealers began to offer discounts and other incentives in July in the lead up to the Hari Raya/Aidul Fitri holidays in September and this has provided some support to the local passenger vehicle market, according to local market watchers.
