The global recession continues to ravage the Thai vehicle industry, with vehicle production data released by the Federation of Thai Industries showing vehicle production in July dropping by 38.4% to 74,983 units compared with 121,672 units a year earlier.

In the January-July period, vehicle output fell by 44.7% to 464,068 units, compared with record volumes of 838,847 units a year earlier. Production of cars fell by 37.6% to 149,416 units, while pickup truck output fell by 48% to 307,030 units.
Production for exports fared slightly worse, with volumes in July falling by 48.7% to 36,555 units and by 40.7% to 271,339 units in the first seven months of the year.
Motorcycle manufacturers have been hit equally as hard, with combined output falling by 43.5% in the first seven months of 2009 1.09 million units, with exports falling by 68.8% to 285,929 units.
