Toyota will increase global output of its hybrid vehicles by just 7% next year to 740,000 units – less than previously reported.

Japan’s Nikkan Kogyo business newspaper said that the carmaker recently submitted the production plan to its parts suppliers.
The newspaper did not reveal its sources but the figure is significant because it is considerably less than a previously reported aim to produce 1m petrol electric hybrid cars globally in 2011.
A Toyota spokesman told the paper the company does not disclose details of future production plans.
Toyota has been ramping up production of environmentally friendly models as governments around the world set ever-tougher fuel economy and emissions standards.
