Volkswagen has appointed former Opel managing director Hans Demant as head of international project coordination effective 1 October.
Demant will report to VW chairman Martin Winterkorn, who said: “The Volkswagen group’s successful growth strategy calls for the intensive coordination of our international projects. We have been fortunate in being able to recruit such an experienced colleague as Hans Demant for this task.”

Demant joined Opel in 1972, was appointed project manager for the Corsa model series in 1989 and was placed in charge of the vehicle concept department in the pre-development division in 1992.
He also assumed technical responsibility for all of GM’s small car projects worldwide in 1997. Demant was appointed vice president engineering at General Motors Europe in 2001 and in addition was named managing director of Opel in 2004.
He has been head of global intellectual property rights at General Motors since January this year.
