Nissan plans to more than double its sales in Russia to over 100,000 cars in the 2010 fiscal year ending next March from around 45,000 cars in the previous 12 months.

Chief operating officer Toshiyuki Shiga told Japanese media that new car sales in Russia are now growing and that the company is also considering switching its Russian plant to operate on three shifts instead of the current two shifts. Nissan opened the St Petersburg plant in June 2009. It assembles Teana sedans and X-trail sports utility vehicles.
