Ford has suspended production at its Russian assembly plant for two weeks due to falling demand, a spokesperson told PRIME-TASS.

The plant will resume production on 14 September, Yekaterina Kulinenko, PR director at Ford Russia, told ITAR-TASS, adding that workers would receive two-thirds of their wages during the suspension period.
Additionally, the plant will operate in two shifts instead of three beginning 22 September, and will work a shortened, four-day week from 6 October until 5 February, 2010, due to low car sales, a spokesman for the plant said earlier.
The plant is located in the city of Vsevolozhsk in the Leningrad region and assembles Focus and Mondeo cars.
According to ASM Holding, which monitors Russia’s car industry, Ford assembled 24,619 cars in January–June at the plant.
