Tata was forced to reverse plans to manufacture the car at its half-completed factory in Singur in West Bengal state last October following violent protests by farmers who lost land and were unhappy about compensation arrangements.
“We do not wish to sit on the land for an indefinite period and we are willing to cooperate with the state government if any proposal suits us,” Ratan Tata told reporters.
“We are willing to transfer the land to the state government only if they compensate us with the investment we have made on the ground,” he said.
As a result of the West Bengal disruption, Tata made launch stocks of the Nano elsewhere but the car’s launch in India was severely delayed. It is building a new Nano factory in the western state of Gujarat.
