Sales of Audi, BMW and Mercedes cars slipped in August but by less than during the depths of the global economic crisis, German automaker data showed.

BMW sales fell 9.7% year on year in August to 91,790 vehicles, Mercedes-Benz Cars posted a 13% fall to 73,200 and Audi slipped only 2.7% to 65,900.


“I am cautiously optimistic that we will get back onto a growth track in the coming months,” BMW sales director Ian Robertson said.


Mercedes-Benz sales chief Klaus Meier said: “We are expecting higher sales in the coming month.”


BMW and Audi both stressed improved sales in China while Audi maintained its overall sales target of 900,000 cars this year, AFP reported.
