Combined with the 170hp 1.4 litre ‘MultiAir’ turbo petrol engine, Giulietta economy is 5.2 l/100 km on the EU combined cycle and CO2 emissions 121 g/km. The transmission will also be offered with diesel engines and, on some models, combined with a start-stop system.

The gearbox was developed by Fiat Powertrain Technologies and, like others of its type consists of two gearboxes in parallel, each with its own clutch, Alfa has gone with the dry rather than wet type.

The automaker said this type of clutch guarantees the highest degree of efficiency in terms of fuel consumption amongst all automatic transmissions. A dry transmission is about 6% more efficient than the corresponding wet type and other advantages include lower cost and easier installation.
