Hunan – part of widespread Chinese investment in the country’s six central provinces – is the site of the GAC-Fiat joint venture, which the grouping claims is the largest automotive investment in the region.

A statement from Fiat noted: “The alliance between GAC and Fiat to produce cars and engines in China is proceeding as planned and scheduled to launch new platform medium-sized cars in 2012.

“The plant is located in the city of Changsha, an important road and rail [hub] in the heart of south-central China, around 600km north of Guangzhou, which will be connected soon through a high-speed rail network.”
