Saab is remaining quiet on speculation it could enter into a tie-up with fellow-Swedish manufacturer Volvo.

Reports in the Swedish press today (7 October) indicated Saab and Volvo could work together on a potential convertible, although the Trollhattan producer poured cold water on the idea.

“I am nor sure what it [report] has bubbled up from,” a Saab spokesman in Sweden told just-auto.

“We have made it very clear for quite some time that with American Axle Manufacturing and BMW and all sorts of partnerships, we will continue to work in a slightly different way than we did with GM and do things that are right for us.

“Clearly we are open to any good idea as long as it is beneficial for us, but there is absolutely nothing to report about Volvo at this stage.”

For its part, Volvo also maintained a distance from the reports. “There are no discussions about any kind of cooperation between Saab and Volvo, neither when it comes to convertibles nor when it comes to other areas,” a Volvo spokesman in Sweden told just-auto.

“But of course we are open to discussions and cooperation with any other manufacturers if it is beneficial for us.”
