The company says it will ‘ask’ employees in Pontiac, Warren and Detroit who
drive E85-compatible vehicles to refuel at a nearby Amoco (BP) station.
E85 is 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent petrol.

GM’s only current E85-compatible vehicles are the Chevrolet S-10 and GMC
Sonoma four-cylinder pickup trucks.

However, all 2002 model year full-sized sport-utility vehicles, including Tahoe,
Suburban and Yukon SUVs equipped with gas-guzzling 5.3-litre V8 engines, will
also be able to use the petrol-ethanol brew.

GM also plans to boost the proportion of E85 vehicles in its company fleet.

U.S. ethanol is domestically produced from agricultural products.

Currently it is made primarily from corn, but in the future, it could also
be produced using woods, grasses and waste cellulose-containing materials.
