General Motors Thailand on Monday it had temporarily shut its manufacturing plant in the country due to a workers’ strike.

The strike was called by the union after talks with the carmaker broke down, General Motors said in a statement cited by Dow Jones Newswires.


The automaker said it would continue to pay all wages, welfare and benefits to all its employees, “including some of the unionised employees who have registered to remain on duty.”


GM Thailand wold endeavour to conduct further negotiations with the union to seek an amicable solution to the demands “soonest possible,” it added.
