The recall by Dongfeng Motor covers 18,146 X-trail SUVs and 33,667 Qashqai crossovers, according to a statement from China’s General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine which said the recall began on Wednesday.


A steering nut problem may lead to the loss of directional control in extreme cases, the statement added.


Dongfeng Motor will install fasteners on the recalled cars, it said.


Dongfeng Motor was established in 2003 between Dongfeng and Nissan Motor to assemble and market the Japanese automaker’s models locally.
