Hyundai’s new assembly plant is on track to launch production in September-November 2010, St Petersburg governor Valentina Matviyenko has said.

She added Hyundai was also expected to launch a components facility next year and that partsmaker Magna also was expected to open its new plant in the city next year.
Hyundai started building the EUR330m (US$493m) plant in 2008. It is expected to produce 100,000 cars a year.
The area – dubbed ‘Russia’s Detroit – is also home to well-established Ford and Toyota assembly facilities and other component makers.
But Suzuki recently abandoned plans to build a plant and gave up the land it had been allocated.
