Nissan Shatai has revised upward its earnings estimates for the April-September first half of fiscal 2009 on growing sales of some vehicles and streamlining efforts.

The Nissan Motor unit is now expecting a group net profit of JPY3.4bn rather than an earlier estimated loss of JPY4.8bn for the period. But the expected profit is still well below the year-before level of JPY11.8bn, Kyodo News noted.


Consolidated sales in the fiscal first half are now estimated at JPY177.8bn, compared with an earlier projection of JPY156bn and JPY271.26bn a year before.


Exports of pickup trucks and Serena minivan sales, the model qualifies for tax breaks for eco-friendly vehicles, have been increasing, the company said.


Nissan Shatai said it is now reviewing its earnings estimates for the whole of fiscal 2009 as well.
