Chinese authorities are to extend an anti-dumping investigation into US-made vehicles.

The probe is into US autos with engine sizes of 2L or above.

A report by Dow Jones which cited a statement from the Ministry of Commerce said the investigation is being extended by six months, to May 2011, due to the complicated nature of the case.

China began conducting a preliminary anti-dumping investigation of US-made vehicles in response to a request from China’s car industry in October last year. Speaking at the time an official promised an “objective, just and fair review”.

President Barack Obama had angered Beijing the month before by slapping a 35% duty on imports of Chinese-made tyres, which totalled about US$1.8bn last year.
