Russian businessman Vladimir Antonov still hopes to own Saab, according to the Svenska Dagbladet newspaper.

Saab was bought by Dutch sportscar maker Spyker from General Motors earlier this year. Antonov told the newspaper that he was ousted from a deal with GM claiming he faced “surreal allegations of alleged ‘economic crimes’, ‘money laundering’ and other false horror stories”.

Instead he lent EUR100m (US$133.2m) to Spkyer and employed private investigators to prove he was suitable to return as a shareholder in the newly formed group.

Svenska Dagbladet said Antonov had commissioned a report by consultants IPSA International and that the report had found no criminal activity linked to him.

Antonov said he had confidence in Saab’s future, despite a reduction in the sales forecast for 2010.
