SAIC Motor Corp is maintaining its timetable to make and sell the MG6 sedan in the UK in the first quarter of 2011, according to Chinese media.

The Chinese manufacturer’s president Chen Hong is quoted as saying SAIC was still talking to General Motors in order to secure access to the UK’s sales network.

Chen also speculated as to SAIC’s sales performance for next year, noting the automaker would attempt to sell around 4m models.

General Motors’ Vauxhall dealer development staff are helping with the development of a UK MG network but MGs will not be sold alongside Vauxhalls in the same showroom.

GM’s partner in China, Shanghai Automotive, owns MG after a merger with Nanjing Automobile in 2007.
