Sales of new imported vehicles in Japan in 2007 increased 1.1% from the previous year to 265,086 units, marking the first year-on-year rise in four years, an industry group said.

Sales of vehicles manufactured by foreign makers fell 5.8% to 231,593 units, while those of vehicles produced by Japanese automakers overseas jumped 105.6% to 33,493 units, the Japan Automobile Importers Association said, according to Japan Today.
Volkswagen was the best-selling imported brand in Japan, although sales declined 4.4% to 51,974 units for a market share of 19.61%. BMW came second with sales falling to 47,103 units, followed by Mercedes-Benz, which saw its sales fall to 46,811.
