The Asahi Tec-owned components company Metaldyne has won a contract with Chery Automobile Company to supply powertrain and chassis components for a future vehicle produced by the Chinese manufacturer.

The deal follows on from the opening of Metaldyne’s first manufacturing facility in China, based in Suzhou.
“We are very excited about this opportunity to bring our advanced manufacturing techniques to China’s fastest growing auto company,” said Jim Hudak, vice president, sales and engineering, Asia Pacific. “Our expansion into China with our new Suzhou facility provides us with a tremendous opportunity to capitalise on the extensive growth in that region. We are well-positioned across a broad range of our product portfolio to supply quality products to the China vehicle market, which is expected to top 8m vehicles this year.”
Metaldyne invested $US18m in the Suzhou project and expects revenues of more than $100m when the plant reaches full capacity. The Suzhou facility currently has about 95 employees. At full capacity, it will employ 350-400 people.
