Robert Bosch and Mahle will establish a 50-50 joint venture to develop, manufacture, and market exhaust gas turbochargers, starting in April 2008.
The company, which will be called Bosch Mahle Turbo Systems, will be based in Stuttgart, developing and making turbochargers for petrol and diesel engines for sale worldwide.
Series production is scheduled to start in 2010 though the JV still needs approval from antitrust authorities.
The use of exhaust gas turbochargers is already common in modern diesel engines, and they are expected to become more prevalent in petrol engines as well.
Bosh has extensive experience in petrol and diesel injection technology while Mahle is expert in the development and manufacture of high temperature-resistant turbocharger components and its subsidiary Mahle Powertrain specialises in the development, design, and application of turbocharged engines.
