Honda Motor India expects fiscal year sales to rise from an expected 68,000 units in 2007/08 to 90,000 in 2008/09 and will eventually quadruple output in a new plant currently being built.
President and CEO Masahiro Takedagawa on Monday told Reuters the automaker expects ultimately to invest INR30bn ($US750m) in a plant being built in Rajasthan state, giving it an eventual capacity of up to 240,000 units.
Earlier, the company had said an initial investment of INR10bn would be made in the plant, giving it a capacity of 60,000 units by the last quarter of 2009, the report noted.
