The Korea Herald reported that Renault Samsung chief executive Jean Marie Hurtiger said at the groundbreaking ceremony that the new centre will not only help to meet domestic demands but also serve its export needs through the nearby ports in Busan and Masan.

The parts center will be constructed in two stages with the completion scheduled for 2012.

The first stage of the project is to be finished by the end of the year. Once complete, the centre will have a storage capacity of more than 45,000 items, the company said.

The new parts centre is located within thirty minutes from three expressways including the Gyeongbu Expressway that connects the southern port city of Busan to Seoul, allowing the easy access to large parts of the country, company officials said.

“As a large number of our suppliers are located in nearby regions, the new centre will help increase synergy between the company and our suppliers,” said a Renault Samsung official. About 60 percent of its suppliers are located in Busan, Gimhae and South Gyeongsang Province, the official told the Korea Herald.
