UK car production rose 26.8% in April to 152,726 units. Export production totalled 120,711 or 79% of output. Year to date (YTD) production was up 15.2% to 574,257. Exports were up 17.9% to 441,674.

April commercial vehicle production rose 32.9% to 21,965 with 14,333 (65.3%) exported (up 31.9%). Year to date output was up 11.3% to 82,256 with 50,260 (61.1%) shipped abroad, up 12.5%.
“The latest UK car production figures have resulted in the best April volumes since 1998,” said SMMT chief executive Paul Everitt. “Growth was across both home and export markets, with over three-quarters of all cars produced so far this year heading abroad.”
“Commercial vehicle production in April showed the best monthly growth since August 2007 and continues to show an encouraging upward trend,” added Everitt.
“All manufacturers did well in the month, providing some welcome economic news during this difficult period.”
