As in the US, the rear wheel drive performance sedan is available across the border with V6 or V8 engines and automatic transmission.

The Canadian cars are made at Holden’s plant in Elizabeth, South Australia, and are based on the SS version of the Commodore which is built on a rear wheel drive platform Holden engineered for global markets. It also underpins the newly-launched Chevrolet Camaro.

“Initial media coverage from the recent Canadian G8 launch event has been highly positive,” said Tony LaRocca, manager of product communications at GM of Canada.

Holden this year expects to export half of its production to New Zealand, the US, Canada, the Middle East, Brazil, South Africa and the UK.
