Johnson Controls has won a contract worth an unspecified amount to produce
integrated cockpit modules for the Chevrolet Venture, Pontiac Montana and Oldsmobile
Silhouette minivans.

All three are currently built on the same platform that was also used for the
unsuccessful and short-lived General Motors Europe Opel/Vauxhall Sintra.

The interior components Johnson Controls is to supply will include seats and
completely integrated trim parts, although the company may not produce every
item itself. However, the GM contract stipulates that Johnson must work with
other interior components suppliers where necessary to deliver the complete
modules.

According to Johnson Controls, this is the first time a tier one supplier has
won a contract of this type from a vehicle maker.

Industry sources say the contract could mean GM eventually ousts its rival
