Chief executive Stephan Schaller told Die Welt newspaper in an interview, that sales are expected to exceed 500,000 units this year for the first time. Further growth is expected in 2009.
VW Nutzfarhzeuge sold 488,700 vehicles in 2007. Growth is coming from a raft of new models and growth in the sale of natural gas-powered vehicles. “This and our entry into new markets should help us continue our growth into next year and weather problems in specific regions,” said Schaller.
Volkswagen is still undecided about whether to enter the US truck market. “We will have some internal discussions about whether it is possible and worthwhile to enter the US market using local production.”
Volkswagen Group is building a new plant in Tennessee that is due to start building cars from 2010/11.
