DNA reported that the company has decided to go beyond the initial targets. S
Sylvain Bilaine, managing director, Renault India, the local unit of the carmaker, said: “We are close to sourcing components worth EUR200m, which was our target. But we will not stop at that. We already have 55 suppliers on board and negotiations are on with several others.”
The report said that the India strategy for parts sourcing is becoming important to Renault as it attempts to offset high cost pressures in Europe.
Bilaine said there was pressure from Paris to ramp up sourcing from India. The Pune unit is shipping to South Africa and Turkey and soon shipments will start to Korea and Romania. Reanult India is also spreading its design work in India. The design studio in Andheri in Mumbai has seen an increase in manpower as well as investments in technology to make it more digital.
