Both the Nikkei business daily and broadcaster NHK said Ford was close to selling most of its stake while NHK also said the US automaker wanted to shed a 20% slice.
Ford reportedly said there had been no change in its tie-up with Mazda while the Japanese firm reportedly said in a statement: “Nothing has been decided.”
The Nikkei said trading house Sumitomo [involved for decades in some of Mazda’s overseas operations] and Tata Motors were potential buyers of the shares and the two would continue their vehicle production partnerships [in countries including the US, Thailand and China] after any sale.
