September sales of new motor vehicles in Malaysia rose 12.8% year-on year to 50,729 units in September, according to the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA).

It said the increase in September sales came mainly from national cars from Proton and Perodua.


The better performance was also due to the “festive Hari Raya hike,” the MAA said.


The association forecast sales will rise in October.


“October will be a favorable month, spearheaded by sales of Perodua and Proton,” the MAA said.
