“We will start building the model at the beginning of 2002 and sales will begin
in July,” said MMC Automotores do Brasil president Eduardo Souza Ramos.

The company has produced the previous-generation L200 pick-up range in its
plant in Catalão, Goiás state, since 1998. The factory is being
extended at a cost of $US100 million to increase production from 8,500 to 20,000
vehicles per year.

“We expect to produce 10,000 units of each of the L200 and Pajero Io per
year”, Ramos said.

Mitsubishi Japan originally banned its Brazilian distributor from exporting
the L200 but now permits shipments to other countries.

MMC Automores do Brasil has started negotiations to ship the pickup to other
South America countries and will also export the Pajero Io.
