The Renault-Nissan alliance is to cooperate with the Oregon state government to set up a network of electricity-charging stations in the US state with a view to facilitating the use of electric cars.


Nissan intends to begin the marketing of environmentally-friendly electric cars in both Japan and the United States in fiscal 2010.


Portland General Electric Co., Oregon’s largest utility, will play a key part in the multilateral project in setting up and running the electricity-charging stations, they said.


Nissan will supply its electric cars to the Oregon state government.


Portland General Electric recently installed six electricity-charging stations in the state capable of filling up several dozen electric cars.

In July, Nissan President Carlos Ghosn said the automaker agreed with the US state of Tennessee to jointly study the infrastructure needed to facilitate the launch of electric cars in the United States in 2010 in the first deal with a US state government promoting electric cars.
