BMW has given Varta an exclusive contract to supply calcium silver batteries
for the new Mini range.

The company says it worked closely with BMW’s Mini design team to develop
a battery to meet unusual installation and operational demands.

BMW engineers found enough space under the bonnet for a compact calcium silver
55 amp/hour battery powerful enough to power the new Mini’s numerous electronic
systems in spite of the high operating temperatures in the compact engine bay.

The battery in the original Mini was installed in the boot.

Varta is also supplying calcium silver batteries for the new Aston Martin Vanquish
and the Jaguar X-type.
