The Xinhua News Agency said that Great Wall Motor spokesperson Shang Yugui confirmed talks but refused to give further details about the new joint venture.

The two will reach a decision in the first half of 2009, the report said.

The new joint venture plant is expected to produce Hover SUVs and other Great Wall models.

Great Wall said in a statement earlier that it would end its joint venture, Great Wall Alabuga Motor, in Russia, because of the gloomy global economic situation and the long-awaited approval from the Russian side.

Great Wall now has another factory in Russia with a capacity of 20,000 units, which mainly produces and assembles pickups and SUVs.
