Taganrog Automobile Plant (TagAZ), based in the Rostov region, has assembled the first batch of Chery cars last month, Rostov Deputy Governor Sergei Nazarov told a news conference at Interfax.

“TagAZ started the production at the premises of the Azov Plant of Child Nutrition and produced the first 250 cars together with Chinese producers in November. This means that volumes are growing and the produced models are diversified,” Nazarov said.

According to earlier reports, Russlegavto, a structure close to TagAZ and the Doninvest financial and industrial group has acquired the technology to produce two passenger car models from China’s Chery concern and has launched a project to assemble them at the Azov Plant of Child Nutrition owned by Doninvest.

The Azov plant stopped producing child nutrition products in 2007.

TagAZ was opened in February 1997. The company started cooperation with South Korea’s Hyundai in 2001. The plant now produces Hyundai Accent and Hyundai Sonata sedans, the Hyundai Santa Fe Classic SUVs and Hyundai Porter commercial vehicles.
