Penske Logistics announced the official opening of its new logistics facility in Louisville, Kentucky.
The site was developed by First Industrial to Penske specifications and handles parts for all Ford North American manufacturing plants.
“We worked as a team to develop a facility that is customised to meet Ford’s logistics needs and one that helps drive greater efficiencies in its supply chain,” said Bill Scroggie, vice president – operations at Penske Logistics.
This 118,000 sq ft facility is centrally located along a major rail line and near interstate motorways. The 140-door warehouse and cross-docking site can simultaneously unload up to six 86ft boxcars enabling highly efficient truck-to-rail or rail-to-truck shipments.
The facility handles more than 800 shipments daily to Ford’s manufacturing sites across North America and replaces a smaller Penske facility nearby. It employs around 65 people.
