hit an estimated 276,037 units, down from the 302,317 cars and trucks built
last week, according to Ward’s Automotive Reports.

Including last week’s estimates, calendar year North American output now totals
10,927,883 vehicles, down 12.6 percent from like-2000’s pace.
In the U.S., automakers were expected to produce 197,852 vehicles last week,
down 12.6 percent from the 226,411 cars and trucks built in the previous week.
To date, calendar 2001 U.S. vehicle output totals an estimated 7,878,611 units,
down 13.3 percent from the 9,087,129 vehicles built in like-2000.
Last week’s Canadian vehicle production was estimated at 44,112, a 7.7 percent
decrease from the 47,782 units assembled in the preceding week.

By GlobalDataEstimated calendar-2001 Canadian vehicle production now stands at 1,784,900
units, down 15.0 percent compared to the 2,098,688 vehicles produced in like-2000.
Of the cars and trucks slated for production last week in the U.S., General
Motors Corp. accounted for 34.2 percent; Ford Motor Co., 27.1 percent; Chrysler
of DaimlerChrysler, 13.7 percent; Honda of America Mfg. Inc., 5.5 percent; Toyota
Motor Mfg. Inc., 5.1 percent; Nissan Motor Mfg. Corp., 3.1 percent; New United
Motor Mfg. Inc., 3.7 percent; Subaru-Isuzu Automotive Inc., 1.4 percent; Mitsubishi
Motor Mfg. of America Inc., 1.6 percent; AutoAlliance International Inc., 0.7
percent; Mercedes-Benz U.S. of DaimlerChrysler, 1.0 percent; BMW of North America
Inc., 1.1 percent; and other manufacturers, 1.8 percent.
