The statewide average price of gasoline in Texas is holding steady while nationwide prices continue to fall. The current Texas statewide average price of a gallon of self-serve regular unleaded is $1.38 — the same as last month’s average.
“Although the statewide average hasn’t changed, some Texas cities (see attached chart) are seeing gas prices decline,” says Rose Rougeau, spokesperson for AAA Texas. “This is good news for people making Memorial Day weekend travel plans.”

AAA’s pre-holiday Fuel Gauge Report shows self-serve regular gasoline averaging $1.47 nationally. Prices have dipped 2 cents a gallon since April when the nationwide price was $1.49 a gallon.
“While gas prices are still higher than they were at the same time last year, a record number of Americans, 34.4 million, plan to travel this Memorial Day holiday,” says Rougeau. “As long as the economy remains strong and people are not worried about their jobs, they are more likely to travel.”
AAA and AAA Texas commission their Fuel Gauge Reports as a service to motorists and the media. The current reports are based on data gathered by the Oil Price Information Service — the nation’s most comprehensive source of petroleum pricing information.
