In a recent media release the Automotive Occupant Restraints Council (AORC) reported incorrect dates for the implementation for the U.S. Department of Transportation’s new rules governing advanced occupant restraint systems. The correct dates, according to a government announcement, are that advanced occupant restraints will be required on some new passenger cars and light trucks beginning September 1, 2003 and in all passenger cars and light trucks beginning September 2006.

AORC President George Kirchoff said, “Our industry endorses and supports the new rules and believe they will lead to saving more lives and reducing injuries.”
