The company already has an existing plant in Chongqing, in China’s southwest.

The joint venture is 50%-owned by Changan, 35%-owned by Ford and 15%-owned by Mazda.

In April, Mei-Wei Cheng, chairman and chief executive of Ford Motor (China) Ltd., said the factory will produce a Ford-branded small car in 2008.

The Nanjing plant will have an annual production capacity of 160,000 vehicles, officials said earlier, according to Dow Jones.
