Ford
Mexico is predicting that it will slash sales records this year, exceeding the
886,000 units sold in 2000 by five percent, reported Mexico City daily el Economista.

“The expectation is to finish the year with 930,000 vehicles sold in the
internal market, which would be another year of national consolidation with
growth of about five percent,” the paper reported Ford Mexico President
Kathleen Ligocki as saying.

El Economista said that Ligocki told a press conference that Ford would launch
soon export the Fiesta hatchback-based Ikon saloon, produced at a plant in Cuautitlan
Izcalli, to Brazil and Venezuela.

Ten thousand vehicles would initially be exported to the two countries with
the possibility of adding Argentine exports later, the paper said.
