Districar, a company in the Portuguese Tricos Group, is the new Ssangyong importer
in Brazil, writes Rogério Louro Alves.
This is the second time that Ssangyong has entered the Brazilian market. Between
1996 and 1997, Suzuki do Brasil tried, without sucess, to sell Ssangyong through
its own dealers.
Districar plans to open 15 exclusive dealers and will invest $US10 million
by the end of the year in vehicle and spare parts stocks plus advertising and
marketing activities.
The new importer is targeting the SUV segment with the Musso and Korando models
and will also import the Strana van.
Districar expects to sell 700 units per year in Brazil.
That may not sound a lot but, when Ssangyong was first sold in Brazil, only
43 vehicles were sold in a year.
