Daimler plans to sell the Canter diesel engine-electric motor hybrid truck made by its Japanese subsidiary Mitsubishi Fuso in Europe, Daimler officials were cited as saying.

According to Kyodo News, the officials reportedly said Daimler will start testing the environmentally friendly and fuel efficient hybrid truck on British roads by the end of the year – the test will continue for three years.
Daimler plans to import the hybrid truck from Japan and Mitsubishi Fuso will tune the Canter’s hybrid engine so it can clear Europe’s emissions regulations, the officials told Kyodo News.
Andreas Renschler, member of the Daimler board in charge of truck operations, reportedly said Daimler wants to make Mitsubishi Fuso a manufacturing base for the Daimler group’s hybrid vehicles.
Daimler holds an 85% stake in the Japanese truck and bus maker, which was spun off from Mitsubishi Motors, Kyodo News noted.
