Citing a general administration of quality supervision, inspection and quarantine website statement, the Associated Press (AP) said the recalled cars were produced by Shanghai Volkswagen between 11 and 24 August.

AP noted that Shanghai Volkswagen was China’s third largest passenger car maker by sales last year, reporting volume of 340,600 vehicles, while VW last year announced an ‘Olympic Programme’ intended to revitalise its brand in China, launching ‘tailor-made’ models such as the Passat Lingyu and Sagitar, a remade version of the Polo, and two Skoda models.
