Job One came off-line at the Hofu No. 2 plant in Hiroshima, Japan, in February 2002 and this is the fastest a single Mazda vehicle model has ever reached a million units of production.

In October 2002, US production began at the AutoAlliance International (AAI) facility, a joint venture plant in Michigan shared with Mazda majority shareholder Ford. Last January, FAW Car Co commenced production in Jilin Province, China.

The model was ‘facelifted’ in mid-2005 and a new sporty version, with supercharged 2.3-litre engine, has just been launched in most markets.
