According to Associated Press (AP), ‘the General’ plans to invest $US175 million to increase production at the Janesville, Wisconsin, assembly plant that builds the giant (to European eyes) Chevy Tahoe and Suburban and GMC Yukon and Yukon XL derivatives.
GM will spend the money renovating the plant’s body shop and general assembly areas for what GM spokeswoman Kelly Patten reportedly called future truck production but declined to elaborate.
State governor Jim Doyle said Wisconsin will kick in a $5 million incentive package, AP noted.
The news agency said the plant, about 40 miles southeast of Madison, employs about 3,900 workers who built nearly 258,000 vehicles last year, and the builders will be in later this year.
