Three major Japanese car makers are planning to hire about the same number of new employees this fiscal year, according to their recruiting plans.

Kyodo News said Toyota plans to newly hire a total of 3,066 employees in the year to April 2007, the second straight year it will accept more than 3,000 people, compared with 3,327 who joined the company during the current fiscal year.
In order to strengthen its R&D division, the car maker will increase hiring of engineers, including mid-career staff with university degrees, while limiting high school and junior college graduates to clerical posts.
Honda will hire 1,120 people, up 180 from the previous year, planning to stimulate its production sector by increasing those who majored in math and science at universities, as well as high school graduates.
Nissan Motor will employ 600 workers, up 100. It will increase by 100 hiring those who will graduate from universities or graduate schools in March 2007, Kyodo News said.
