”We are excited that China will play a pivotal role in developing cutting-edge products that meet the needs of our global customers,” said Meszaros, general manager of Yanfeng Visteon, Visteon’s joint venture with Shanghai Automotive Industrial Corporation (SAIC).
Located at the recently opened China Technical Center, Visteon’s electronics group has more than 250 engineers, with that number set to increase significantly over the next few years. This is in addition to Visteon’s existing global electronics engineering capabilities at its major technical centers in Van Buren Township, Mich., (US); Kerpen, Germany; Basildon, United Kingdom and Chennai, India.
“In China, Visteon is recognized as the market leader in interiors; our goal is to also become the leader in automotive electronics,” Meszaros said.
One example of how Visteon’s capabilities in China are already delivering benefits to its global electronics business is the dockable DVD player. Originally introduced in 2004, it was the first significant project developed largely by the Visteon China electronics product group and has been a major success with customers in both North America and Europe. The next-generation dockable entertainment system featuring Nintendo’s GameBoy Advance debuted at the 2006 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in January.
